What is memoπ?

memoπ trains the first 500 decimal places of π: in sentences of four digits, with memory images from the Major system, and with reviews shortly before forgetting. There is the iOS app and the web app at memopi.app. Neither needs an account; the iOS app works entirely without an internet connection. Both speak English and German. The iOS app is not on the App Store yet — what it does and what is still missing is on memoπ for iPhone.

How many digits are free?

20 decimal places (5 sentences) in the browser, 100 (25 sentences) in the iOS app — enough to really experience the memory images, the chaining and the review schedule. After that, the one-time purchase of €4.99 permanently unlocks all 500 digits: no subscription, no advertising, no further purchases.

The browser gives less for a reason that has nothing to do with the price — it cannot remind you. The method depends on reviewing at the right moment, and notifications only exist in the app. Going from 20 to 100 digits therefore costs you nothing but a download.

I have already learned more than 20 digits in the browser.

Your progress stays exactly as it is: you can see it, review it, test it and transfer it to the app. The limit applies to learning new sentences and nothing else. And if you arrive from the web with more than 100 digits, you keep them in the app without buying anything — the purchase is only needed for new sentences beyond the threshold.

How do I import my progress from the web app?

Open memopi.app/lernen and choose Einstellungen (settings) — on a computer in the column on the left, on a phone behind the "⋯" to the right of the steps. There you will find "Lernstand in die iOS-App übertragen" (transfer progress to the iOS app). From there, three paths lead into the app: copy the progress and paste it from the clipboard in the app, save it as a file and open it with memoπ, or use the direct link — the last one only works if you opened memopi.app on the iPhone itself. Your history comes along, and none of it passes through a server.

Is my progress gone if I delete the app?

Your progress lives only on your device and travels with the ordinary device backup (iCloud or your computer). If you delete the app, it is gone from the device — an existing backup brings it back with the device. There is no server of ours to restore anything from; see the privacy policy for details.

How do I get my purchase onto a new device?

The one-time purchase is tied to your Apple account, not to the device. On the new device, "Restore purchases" in the app is all it takes — signed in with the same Apple account. Family Sharing is enabled: one purchase covers your whole family group.

I am not getting any reminders.

Reminders are optional: they only take effect once you switch them on in the app's settings, and they need the notification permission from iOS. Check both — in the app under Settings and in the iOS Settings under Notifications. Everything is scheduled locally on the device; there is no push service.
